GW-9800 Gundam Airmaster
An unknown number of Gundam Airmaster units survived the end of the 7th Space War and fell into use by various groups, eventually finding their way into the hands of pilots like Witz Sou and Linn.GW-9800-Gundam-Airmaster-Fighter-Mode-gundam-25881120-372-183.jpgWitz Sou acquired his Gundam Airmaster from the leader of a Vulture group that was impressed with his piloting abilities. Witz used the Gundam Airmaster in order to earn money for his family, eventually joining the crew of the Freeden in exchange for them protecting his large amount of gold. The Gundam Airmaster becomes a permanent member of the Freeden's mobile suit compliment however as Witz decides to stay with the Freeden and its crew. The Gundam Airmaster was soon over powered by the new mobile armors and mobile suits of the New United Nations Earth, and was overhauled with the resources of the People's Republic of Estard and Kid Salsamille into the GW-9800-B Gundam Airmaster Burst.

Linn, a crew member of the Mirage has her own Gundam Airmaster, which she used to aide Rick Aller in his mobile suit training, as well as defend the Mirage. It was during her defense of the Mirage against Kai in his GB-9700 Gundam Belphagor that her Gundam Airmaster was damaged and given up for sale.
Combat Abilities
The GW-9800 Gundam Airmaster was developed along side the GX-9900 Gundam X during the 7th Space War, and is equipped with the same Flash System as the Gundam X and the GT-9600 Gundam Leopard. This allows the Newtype pilots of the Gundam Airmaster to control the FW-9800 GW-Bit units.

The Gundam Airmaster was more lightly armed then the other Gundams made by the United Nations Earth during the 7th Space War. Its armaments consisted mainly of a pair of vulcan guns mounted in the head and a pair of buster rifles, as well as optional missles that could be mounted to the shoulders of the mobile suit. The Gundam did however contain a unique system at the time of its development called the "TransSystem", which allowed it to transform into a fighter jet appearance. While transformed the Gundam Airmaster could use a pair of vulcan guns mounted in the nose section, as well as fire its buster rifles mounted on its hips.

Because of its ability to transform, the Gundam Airmaster was a superior aerial combat mobile suit, out performing other mobile suits of the time.

Technical and Historical Notes
During the 7th Space War, the United Nations Earth developed and deployed three advanced new mobile suit designs to counter the Space Revolutionary Army. One of these new units was the GW-9800 Gundam Airmaster, and like its brethren GX-9900 Gundam X and GT-9600 Gundam Leopard, it was equipped with a "flash system", enabling a Newtype pilot to mentally remote-control a large number of bit mobile suits (or "mobile bits") - in the Airmaster's case, the FW-9800 GW-Bit. The Airmaster was also unique in that it was one of the first mobile suits to be equipped with the "TransSystem", a design concept which enabled the Airmaster to transform into a fighter-like craft capable of atmospheric flight. Although only lightly armed with vulcan guns and a pair of "buster" beam rifles, the Airmaster was quite nimble as an aerial combat unit.

Although an unknown number of Airmasters were manufactured, only one unit is known to have survived the war. This last remaining Airmaster would find its way into the hands of Vulture mercenary pilot Witz Sou, who operated this transforming Gundam during the military chaos occuring in A.W. 0015. While fighting the New UNE in the Asian nation of Estard, it became apparent that the Airmaster's aging design was not performing well against new designs such as the NRMA-006 Gadeel mobile armor. After being damaged in battle, the Estard government offered its resources and upgraded the unit to the GW-9800-B Gundam Airmaster Burst.
